Easy day trips from Casa Mazeta, Juayua

Juayua lies right at the heart of La Ruta de las Flores, making it by far the best location for exploring this hilly region. All the villages along this famous ‘Flowers Route’ are an easy bus ride away, the longest journey being around 45 minutes. Visit Ataco for it’s colourful murals and arts and crafts stores; Apaneca for the canopy tour (zip-lining) and it’s fun hedge maze; Salcoatitan for it’s elaborate mosaics and typical foods; and Nahuizalco for some of the best carpentry and wicker work in the country. The villages at either end of the route, Sonsonate and Ahuachapan, although not unattractive, are used by most as transport hubs for onward travel.

For even more adventures we offer our fabulous 7 Waterfalls Hike, as well as shorter hikes to Rio Monterrey, Cerro Las Ranas, Cerro El Aguila and, coming soon, we plan hikes to both Volcan Santa Ana y Lago de Coatepeque starting from Casa Mazeta.

And for those desperate for a little beach time, Playa Los Cobanos is certainly doable as a day excursion by local buses. Also, great surfing can be had at nearby Playa La Mizata.

Seven Waterfalls tour

The original, the only, the real  7 Waterfalls Hike!

Come with Hostal Casa Mazeta on this energetic and exhilarating, 6 hour hike.

Bring your hiking boots, sunscreen, speedos and a bag full of energy. We´ll take you through coffee fincas and pristine tropical forest, with spectacular mountain and volcano views – you can see all 3 volcanoes … Izalco, Ilamatepec and Cerro Verde! We will pass by many waterfalls, and at one point free rappel down through a 40 metre cascade.

The hike is up to around six hours, at an easy, steady pace …. you will never be rushed. Our experienced guide will take a leisurely pace, pointing out the flora and fauna on the way, and allowing plenty of time to take photos or simply take in mother nature.

At the last of the falls ´Los Chorros de la Calera´, we will prepare a picnic lunch for you while you take a refreshing swim in these crystal clear waters.

This hike costs from only $15.00 pp (depending on group size) and includes experienced guide and picnic lunch. The group can generally decide at what time they would like to start, although we recommend setting off between 6:00 am and 8:00 am to avoid the heat of the day (and, at weekends, to take advantage of the food festival and replace all that spent energy!)
